Last summer, a friend hosted my kids and me for lunch on her patio and served salmon burgers, which I had never had before. We all loved them, and they have since become our family’s favorite convenience food. I found some I like at Trader Joe’s. I have also seen them at my local supermarket (Trader Joe’s is a 40 minute drive for me, so I only go when I can combine it with other travelling I have to do in that direction), but I will not buy them because they list high fructose corn syrup as an ingredient (more on that in a future post). Some day
soon, I will try to develop my own recipe to make them from scratch. In the meantime, I advise buying them frozen and serving them on high quality burger rolls (if you live in Connecticut, I recommend the brioche burger buns from Judie’s Bakery in New Haven: www.judies.net. I buy them at Bishop’s Orchard in Guilford, CT.) I always make this sauce to serve with them, along with lettuce–and tomato, if it is the right season and you can get them locally grown.
A couple dollops of mayonnaise
A couple dollops of sour cream
Chopped dill (or dry, if you do not have access to fresh)
A squirt of fresh lemon juice
Mix all together in a small bowl.
If lack of precise measurements makes it difficult for you to put this together, let me know in the comments and I will work out the exact amounts!
Hi-I have refused to buy salmon burgers also because of the high fructose corn syrup. It seems an oxymoron to have a salmon product, which is supposed to be very good for your heart health, and have hfcs in it which is very bad for your heart and health.
I live in a very rural part of PA and shopping choices are very limited.
I did however just find Trident brand salmon burgers, which come frozen, and are hfcs free!
